Employers, supervisors, co-workers and friends can
all help soldiers by relieving concerns about
what’s going on at home. Intense training and the
hazards of combat generate high levels of stress,
and a gentle touch from family and friends helps
bring sanity into this environment of constant
crisis.

Here are five easy ways to help reduce the stress
of combat and help win the battle.

1. Cards and Letters

Send handwritten cards and letters on a regular
schedule. There’s something very reassuring about
hearing your name announced at mail call and
walking away with a card or letter that you can
read and re-read — far better than e-mail.

Schedule letter writing, and write often. Don’t
expect prompt replies because the fast pace of
combat duty and daily fatigue prevent such a
luxury.

Write about the weather. Tell about business
routines and extraordinary achievements. Give the
town gossip. Keep them up to date on their
favorite television show. Talk about customers
and suppliers. Pass along break room jokes and
news about employees they know.

Your GI friends are hungry for a touch from home –
even if it is in an envelope. Frequent letters
can reduce stress significantly.

2. Phone calls

With today’s technology you can talk with soldiers
at war. You can get a pin number for inexpensive
international calling cards on web sites such as
ww

w.noblecom.com. Call your soldier friends in
Afghanistan or Iraq for about thirty cents a
minute. Calls to some countries cost as little as
a penny a minute.

Not every soldier has access to a phone. Ask if
they can get to a land line or cell phone, and ask
about the time difference. They’ll tell you the
best time to call.

No matter how dangerous the work, a voice of a
good friend alleviates stress. Your calls will be
remembered for years.

3. Gifts and packages

The gifts you send aren’t as important as the

frequency. Your soldiers will tell you what they
need, but they might not tell you what they want.

Send packages often. Infantry soldiers cannot
carry a lot of stuff at any given time. They
already have 40-60 pounds of weapons and
ammunition. But send enough goodies for them to
share with buddies on the front line. You might be
the only friend who sends enough for them to share
with GIs who never receive anything from the home
front.

Send favorite foods, snacks, and homemade goodies.
Send a product that’s new on the market. Find out
whether they need AA batteries.

When I was an infantry company commander in
Vietnam, my wife once sent a whole case of popcorn
that could be popped over a campfire. After months
of jungle patrols and tasty C-rations, the popcorn
was a touch of home for everyone in the company.
Who would have guessed that popcorn could relieve
stress?

4. Pictures

Take pictures of all company activities, customer
functions, and industry happenings. All of these
things are important when you’re away from home.

Send pictures of co-workers and company events.
Include shots of funny things. Instead of
throwing away those goofy faces, put them in an
envelope. These are the people your soldiers know
– and miss!

If they can’t get disposable cameras from the post
exchange, send a couple of the one-use cameras
that cost under ten bucks. Trading pictures helps
you understand their work and the way they live,
and the snapshots help reduce stress for the
troops.

5. News clippings

Stuff newspaper clippings into those envelopes.

GIs want to know what’s going on in sports,
politics, Hollywood, and society. They know that
the world continues to turn while their time is
frozen in combat. News clippings help them
remember what it’s like in civilized life.

Send industry news and editorials. News about the
war won’t damage morale. Seeing war news in print
helps soldiers understand how accurate or how
misguided their efforts are represented. Write
your own notes right on the article. Tell them
what you think about the news. Ask for their
thoughts.

Gather news about their other friends. Knowing
that others continue with daily routines will be
encouraging to those doing the hard work. The
reality of things helps reduce the stress of not
being in touch.

There you have it – five easy ways to stay in
touch and reduce stress for soldier friends.
You’ll be a part of the war on terror.

If you also want to help control stress in your
workplace, send e-mail to get a free article about
controlling the top ten workplace stressors – <br

There is so much free information on the Internet that it is relatively easy to find web sites that offer all the information that you will need to know about memory training.

We found that depression scores improved in a treated group and worsened in a control group, independently of diagnosis. Global mental status as measured by Mini-Mental-State Examination and performance on a figural and verbal fluency task remained stable for the memory training groups and declined in the control groups. Short-term memory declined in both groups, however, significantly only in the nontreated groups.

Whether you have been in an accident or simply want to increase and expand your ability to remember things then I believe memory training I will be of benefit to you. With the extra confidence that memory training brings it helps us both socially and in our everyday lives. You will never have to worry about whether you left the iron on or the oven for that matter.

The process of setting goals helps you in choosing a solid path in life and achieving success. We teach how to target your personal goals, ways to motivate you in accomplishing them, relieving stress, time management, problem solving, and many other important tricks that make goal setting much easier. Whether it’s short term personal goals or lifetime goals, our goal setting workshops will be<div

Your short-term memory is easily invoked. You can remember whether you kissed your spouse goodbye or not because this short-term memory is easily retrieved.

Your remote memory will keep memories that are important to you. Despite the distance in time of events that happened in the past, memorable moments such as the day that your child was born or the first car that you bought. Some memories will remain in the memory until we are ready to let them go.

If you are like most people you probably can instantly recall whether you have seen someone before. You remember the face but you can’t quite remember the name. This can be one of the most embarrassing situations resulting from an untrained memory. Have you ever been with a friend and were approached by an acquaintance who will undoubtedly stop to chat. You will have to make introductions but you suddenly feel like hiding because you will have to utter those humiliating words “I’m sorry, but I can’t remember your name”. You can make jokes about ‘a bad memory’ but your acquaintance will still feel that you do not value them enough to remember their name.

This training activity begins the process of helping participants to improve the power of their memory recall. It introduces simple-to-use memory improvement memory techniques which come quite naturally. It begins by introducing participants to a range of techniques designed to aid memory recall. By means of a story it takes them on a journey of exploration about how to commit things to memory. It then takes them through ‘association’, ‘acronyms’ and ‘creative sentences’, giving them opportunities to practise individually, in pairs, and in threes throughout the training activity.

peterhutch

Author Bio
Read about <a

Chest, neck, face, and scalp muscles also get a workout, along with the eye muscles that expel tears. The Journal of the American Medical Association reported on a study that ?suggests that a humor therapy program can increase the quality of life for patients with chronic problems and that laughter has an immediate symptom-relieving effect for these patients.? The results of this psychological approach to rehabilitation prompted the British Columbia Cancer Agency to add a ?humor room? to their library.

Laughing our way through life, however, will not ensure good health. Rather, balance is needed. The Bible says that there is a time to laugh and a time to be quiet. Laughter is a positive and powerful emotion that has all the ingredients required for individuals to change themselves and to change the world in a peaceful and positive way. Was it on a TV show, or part of a stand-up comedy routine, or part of a recent lecture? In any event, do you remember how it made you feel?

More likely than not you can remember the last time, and if you took a minute you could probably tell me the jokes, and it probably made your day. It either gave you relief from the stress of taking your self or what you were doing so seriously, or it took your mind off of something that was causing you grief, or it just livened up an otherwise boring talk. Probably most importantly though, it allowed you to laugh which as we all know is “the world’s best medicine.”

But have you ever thought more about why this was so? Is there actually something about jokes and the resulting laughter that can change our health in a beneficial way? What is it about laughter that we love so much? Why are comedies so popular? Why is there such a thing as comic relief and why is it so effective–even in the most serious of plays or dramas? Well you shouldn’t be surprised to find out that scientists have been studying it but you may be surprised to find out that there is actually something about laughter that affects us more profoundly than we think.

Basically there is good evidence now that laughter produced by jokes can change the chemical milieu that courses through our body on a second to second basis, and in profound degree. Laughter<div

Levels of Dopamine, serotonin, and Nor- epinephrine are altered as well that produce endogenous anti- depressant effect.

Researchers then wondered about what action in particular was producing these changes–was it smiling, or the physical changes that take place in rate of breathing, in blood pressure, increased heart rate, etc. What they found was (as usual) that it most likely was a combination of physical changes in the body that occur with laughter. Each one of these changes by it self produced small effects but together were synergistic in producing these stress relieving, and mood improving results. It was interesting to note that spontaneous laughter was better than self produced laughs but not by as large a difference than you might think. Also merely smiling produced significant changes in the blood chemistry. So basically tell someone jokes, smile more, and laugh even if you have to fake it–it does the body good!

Information on <a

Apparently more than previously noted; the principle of Occam's razor is at the core of April Fools. It is an observable prediction of explanatory hypothesis or theory. Or, as Leonardo da Vinci put it, "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.Fools2009."No related posts.

By: Kevin L. Johnson<div

The Principle of Occam’s Razor states “the explanation of any phenomenon should make as few assumptions as possible, eliminating those that make no difference in observable predictions of explanatory hypothesis or theory. The principle is most often expressed as Entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem, or entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity.” Okay, what does that mean?

Leonardo Da Vinci stated it this way, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”

While Albert Einstein stated, “Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.”

Popular culture simply states it by the acronym KISS; “Keep it simple stupid.”

I don’t know exactly when April Fools first started, but I know a good prank, hoax, and practical jokes (PHPJ) when I see one. The best and first way ahead is to keep our aforementioned geniuses in mind when planning for this unique pseudo holiday.

a). Keep it simple.

b). There must be rules of engagement (ROE). A good portion of PHPJ occurs at our places of work, so this would only make sense. We don’t want to lose our jobs or have someone else lose their job, especially in this present economy. In fact, the PHPJ should be enjoyed by all, to include the mark (target). The PHPJ should not be harmful, damage property and of course should not break the law.

So, with this in mind I call upon one William A. Perry, who works for the Melbourne, FL Police Department and is no stranger to PHPJ. He sta<div

Practical jokes are pulled on friends only.

2. Don’t do anything hateful or spiteful. (Remember this is your friend.)

3. Don’t do anything that is going to damage someone’s personal property (You never know how sentimental an object is.) Don’t damage public/company property…

4. Do not do anything that will negatively impact work or the job.

5. Do not do anything that will embarrass your company.

6. Someone must act as a control rod ensuring that the joke does not go too far. (This person will be responsible for safety. It is a good idea for this person to know the rules of engagement.) This person will ultimately be responsible for shutting down the joke if it starts to escalate.

7. If at all possible try to pass off the practical joke as training… Sometimes it really can be.

8. I’ve added this one: The more people involved in a practical joke, the funnier it is. It’s a great stress reliever in the work place.

Now, we have a great set of rules of engagement, the mentorship of outstanding geniuses, and the enthusiasm to light a roman candle and put it in the men’s toilet! Stop! Remember, no damage to public or company property. Keep it simple stupid.

Here are some great ideas:

1. Make several notes for your friends that say “I’m sorry I damaged your car. Please call this number and I will take care of the repairs.” Leave the notes on their cars. The number you leave is the number for time. Or answering machine # they don’t know, but the recording is a fictional Mental Asylum, “Thank you for calling Greater St Louis Mental Institution. All operators are busy at this time; we’re experiencing a high volume of calls. Please call back later.”

2. Tell two strangers/friends (if friends, they don’t know each other) who will later be introduced to each other that the other person is hard of hearing and speaks loudly. Be sure to emphasize that the other person is very sensitive about it. Then introduce them.

3. Slipped some of those anti- shoplifting strips into the lining of your friend’s favorite jacket. You might even be able to get the store involved. Of course, invite your friend to that store.

4. Maybe you can find something to prank having to do with your job. For instance, in the Air Force, we would send people out to get a bucket of prop wash, or a roll of flight line. Prop wash is a current of air created by a propeller and Flight Line is the actual place where planes take off. It’s a nice kind of play on words; of course, getting as many people involved as possible is what makes them great.

Now, if you are one of those legendary PHPJ, who just has to out do everyone, and it has to be very elaborate, and yes, better than last year. Go for it! Note, you can break the guidance of KISS; however, do not break the rules of engagement! Hey, a KISS between friends is just a KISS but Da Vinci and Einstein is a couple of guys who know a whole lot more about stuff than you and I. So have fun, soon it will be April Fools day!

For additional April Fools’ ideas, go to the two sites listed below:

April Fools’ Day On The Web: The most complete listing of April Fools’ Day Jokes that Web Sites have run each year from 2004 all the way until the present: http://aprilfoolsdayontheweb.com/

Museum of Hoaxes: Top 100 April Fools’ Day hoaxes of all time: http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/hoax/aprilfool/

Fools2009

Kevin L.
