What do folks who love to play computer games intuitively know about stress management? What I learned from my husband is that when there are multiple complex problems demanding solutions, guys (and many gals too) will turn to games where they can feel immediate competence for stress relief. Read on to learn how playing computer games helps to reduce stress.

A few years ago I was asked to give a lecture at Princeton University. The students wanted to know what stressors to expect from their initial experiences in the working world and how these stressors would affect them. Although this was an academic presentation, I was surprised to see that their questions and concerns were similar to the ones I see at all level of the business world and from all degrees of experience.

Type A and B managers tend to experience different stressors, and they tend to create different potential stressors for the organization. A stress analysis of the managers in your organization could inform your senior level staff of the pros and cons of some of the major stressors-and stress busters-in the management styles specific to your organization. Cultivating type A and especially type B components to our management styles and personalities is beneficial for ourselves, our team-and the organization. Part 1 of a 2 part series.
