It is pretty normal that if one is suffering from excruciating pain in his back, he cannot enjoy playing golf, no matter how bold the person may appear. So if you want to enjoy golf to the extent that you cherish it, it is important that you pay heed to the below mentioned tips to adjust your body mechanics in a way that you will reduce stress on your lower back considerably. These will require a few adjustments is your style of play, however, will prove extremely rewarding in the long run.

- It is important to practice slowing down your arms during the follow through period of the golf swing. This habit will place less stress on your lower back. It is normally observed in many golfers that they take their hands far over their back in a high-speed motion, thus stressing their backs tremendously.

- While you are executing the golf swing, you must ensure that it is supported by your whole body. Your hips and your shoulders must also rotate in coordination with your back. This will reduce stress on your lower back considerably.

- During your follow through after executing your golf swing, you must shift your weight onto the right foot (left in case you play left handed).

- Your stance while taking the golf swing is of utmost importance. You must make it a point that in an effort to hit the ball further on the course, you don’t split your legs far apart. Doing this will limit your hip and shoulder movement at the time of follow through, thus putting more stress on your back. Normally, it is recommended to have ones legs split as far as ones shoulder width and no more than that

- Care should be taken that you don’t extend your body very far out at the time of follow through.

As you implement these tips on a regular basis, they will become your second habit and help you learn how to avoid back injuries effectively. Your golf rounds will become pain-free and enjoyable.

Remember that if pain in your back persists despite following these tips regularly, you must consult a good orthopedist. Such regular pain can be due to serious conditions like slip-disc, arthritis or even stress fracture. In that case, there is an entirely different healing procedure different than plain precautions while taking golf swing.
