In today’s terms, human brain can be compared with a typical computer’s central processing unit. IT carries out all the same tasks that a CPU does for a computer including controlling, managing, and making optimum use of available resources. Now such a vital part and no one pays any attention towards its servicing or simply put, maintenance. This article tells about the life style that not only helps keeping brain in best condition but also informs about the nourishment of this vital and top most body part.
First of all the schedule of the day must be very correct. Making most of this human machine is important but equally important is giving it due rest. This is why one should go to bed in time and ensure a sound sleep between 6 to 8 hours before waking up next morning. A sound sleep not just means a complete rest to the body but also recharging the senses. As per studies, brain cells rejuvenate themselves while human body is asleep. So sleep should be given due importance and for that the bed room should be calm and cool. Fresh air, dim light, and fragranced ambience are few to name.
Similarly one must wake up peacefully. Although alarm clocks should be avoided but if needed, they should be easy on ears as the brain wakes up with the body and needs some time to get acquainted with the fresh atmosphere where it has to start functioning right away. For example, as soon as one gets up, brain recalls the daily tasks to be done as well as day’s appointments and any special visit or meeting for the day.
The day can be started with any refreshing activity like a morning walk or visit to a nearby garden. As brain comes across fresh ambience, it not just gets rejuvenated but gets prepared for the day long activities. On return after cleaning of the body, some protein rich elements can be consumed as breakfast but that should be nutritious not heavy. A balanced diet gives body the energy to take on assignments until lunch and also ensures food for the brain. A healthy body sends good vibes to brain and a healthy brain ensures proper functioning of the body. They supplement each other.
On the way to office or work, keeping window panes opened allows fresh air circulation in the car which revamps the senses. There are endless stories, colors scattered all around the way, so seeing and relating to self or a friend’s life gives brain an easy exercise to relate things with each other. This helps memorizing things with connections. So on the way, if there a McDonald, any location attached to it can be remembered quite easily. The need is to keep the mind alert all the time.
Reaching office can also be initiation of another brain related activity such as trying to remember all the To- Do list in a serial fashion. For example office meeting followed by coffee with the client. To start with, one can remember small lists at most of two items as exemplified above. Later when without seeing the list if these processes were successful, the list of items to be remembered can be increased.
Similarly remembering birthdays of office mates can be seen once in the start of week. And then emphasis should be on remembering them without any help from PDA, computer, or diary.
Now similar to the breakfast, lunch should be nutritious and not heavy. A heavy meal makes the body act sluggish and if body is not supporting, no matter how agile the brain is, it’s of no use.
Style of working also should be very precise and clear. All the requisites should be collected well in advance and no matter how small is the task, all the requirements and deliverable formats should be there on paper. When all the stuff is available at the distance of click or extension of hands, the brain can concentrate on the actual work. This way not only productivity is increased but also peace of mind is achieved and chances of leaving errors in the task gets reduced up to a fair extent.
Although it’s not always possible but the idea should be to have less tasks marked as pending. Also be it desk or simply computer desktop, clean and arranged places give rise to creative idea as eyes see all arranged things and new ideas pop up. And of course creating new ideas ensure the brain is not idle. The famous adage, ‘empty mind, devil’s workshop’ is all true. So having no work means wastage of world’s most precious machine, isn’t?
When it’s a break, it should be break. Means no tasks related to work. The break should allow brain to relax and do things that recharge its senses. A break essentially should be a refueling of the brain and for that any recreational activity, short time sports, or a stroll across the office garden or nearby road would be of great help.
While on the work, in order to keep the concentration, task should be divided into small chunks and upon completion of each module, a break, coffee, or a call to spouse or friend can be awarded to self. This again refills the brain.
While returning from the work, again the link up exercise done in the morning can be reiterated to consolidate those faint links. Soon more links will be established and then not just big landmarks can be remembered but also other places and like small shops, kiosks etc will become part of the brain.
At home, there should be a talk about day long work and experiences with the spouse but no work specific talks. Just good and bad points can be shared and with no reference to work. This keeps the mind free of those worries which cannot be considered until next working day.
Dinner should be light as usual and while eating, all light stuffs can be shared with the family. The foremost thing here is most of the people prefer watching Television while dinner which is a bad habit. This not only extends the time taken in dinner also turns a delicious hot food into cold and less tasty. The dinner can be done in about 20-30 minutes. Following this a sweet should be consumed for health reason and a walk after this would be great for the body. Serious matters of the family now can be discussed with spouse or family. By this time, mind is all calm and ready to make use of all the experience and take tough things into consideration, quite easily.
Next and obvious task is going to bed and before that, watching daily news helps keeping the information repository of the mind fresh. After one capsule of news, light comedy or simple programs can be watched, that are made for sheer entertainment. More news only adds to tension and family drama soaps fill the mind with all the apprehension of future. This keeps mind agitated and tense. While this time of day should be for lighter moments. Sharing new plans with spouse, having lighter romantic moments, or simply watching a video of last holidays , can be really good idea. If there are kids and are small, their schools, studies can be talked about. Telling them a story also releases lot of tension from the mind and this also helps minds stay imaginative.
